Dental Hygiene

Mal-nutrition and lack of dental hygiene are the main causes that many people, including children have very bad teeth.
In 2009 CAMDOC started an action "tooth brushing" at meanwhile three primary schools in the villages Koek Nhang, Trapeang Russei and Thom Roeung. In total over a 1000 sets of tooth brushes and paste were distributed to the children and explanations and demonstrations were given on how to do it.
Three months after the two fisrt schools were serviced, an evaluation inquiry was held amongst the children and their families. The outcome was clear: almost all participants were convinced that mouth hygiene is important. The tooth brushes and paste wer donated by American and Dutch friends of CAMDOC.
Through women representative groups in the villages a distribution system for tooth brushes and paste, as well as soap and detergent powder has been set up. People can buy these hygiene products at half the shop prices. It is expected that people bring back the used brushes and empty tubes.
A program is in preparation to send volunteer dentists in Germany and The Netherlands to Roeul for basic dental care for the children on a regular basis.
